General
What does Maro Labs make?
Two macOS apps. Maro Portal is a local-first personal AI workspace that keeps the work you hand to AI, your conversations, and your decisions as records. Maro Writer is a co-writing app for long-form and serialized fiction.
How can I use Maro Portal or Maro Writer?
Access is arranged by email. Write to [email protected], tell us which app you want to use and what for, and we reply by email. See the Request access page.
Who are the apps for?
Maro Portal is for people who hand a lot of their work to AI and need context, decisions, and reviews to stay on the record. Maro Writer is for writers of long-form and serialized fiction who want AI help while keeping control of the manuscript.
Who is behind Maro Labs?
Maro Labs is a Korea-based software studio founded in April 2026 and led by its founder, Maro.
Which languages do you support?
We reply by email in Korean or English. This website is also available in Japanese. The app interfaces are in Korean.
Maro Portal
What does Maro Portal run on?
macOS. It is a native macOS app with a local Node.js server that runs on the same Mac.
Where are my records stored?
In the app's data folder on your own Mac. AI calls go out only to the providers you connect.
Which AI models does it work with?
Anthropic Claude, OpenAI Codex, and an on-device model. Providers are replaceable, and a task keeps its history when the model changes.
What does "reviewed before it counts" mean?
Each task goes through six steps: born, checked, run, evaluated, harvested, and closed. A separate reviewer checks the work before it closes, the review receipt names the provider, and a partial pass is never rounded up.

Will the AI change my manuscript on its own?
No. AI drafts become part of the manuscript only when you adopt them, and the original is kept separately.
What kind of writing is it for?
Long-form and serialized fiction. It has chapter-by-chapter story memory, a glossary of several hundred martial-arts terms, a name finder, and genre-specific themes.
Which AI does Maro Writer use?
Maro Writer has a Claude connection for co-writing. You choose AI-led, writer-led, or writing together for each work.
How is Maro Writer related to Maro Portal?
Maro Writer grew out of Maro Portal's writing extension and became its own macOS app on September 29, 2026.
Maro Portal
Hand off work and get it back reviewed
- Open Maro Portal on your Mac. The desk is the first screen.
- Connect the AI providers you want to use: Anthropic Claude, OpenAI Codex, or an on-device model.
- Talk to Maro in the central conversation and hand off a task.
- Follow the task through its six steps. A separate reviewer checks it before it closes.
- Come back to it later in the personal wiki, the knowledge map, and the chronicle.
Maro Writer
Start a work and write together
- Open the bookshelf, enter a title and genre for a new work, then create and open it.
- Pick a co-writing mode for the work: AI-led, writer-led, or writing together.
- Write chapter by chapter. Select a passage to ask for changes right there, compare, and apply.
- Adopt only what you like. Drafts join the manuscript when you adopt them; the original is kept separately.
- Use the genre tools. The glossary and name finder sit beside the manuscript.
